Basic Keelboat Sailing (BKB 101)
A comprehensive Course for Beginners
This
fun-filled 2 day sailing class is our most popular Learn
to Sail course! Under the patient guidance of your ISS
instructor, you start the learning process aboard a Colgate
26 - a modern purpose-built sail trainer, roomy daysailer, and competitive racer. You learn nomenclature and why a sailboat
"sails" (raise and lower sails, learn points
of sail, upwind and downwind sailing, tacking, jibing,
docking, and safety procedures). With a maximum of 3 other students
aboard, you are allowed plenty of time to rotate crew
positions. Upon successful completion, you will be capable of sailing
a boat over 20' without supervision in moderate conditions and you will eligible to charter your sail training vessel for day sailing on Tampa Bay at a discounted student rate.
You'll learn more in this ISS class than you would in
a full season of "trial and error" sailing!
It's intense, exciting, and a lot of fun, opening the door to a lifetime of sailing adventures.
In addition to the finest Coast Guard Licensed ASA Certified
Instructors, we include:
- The official ASA Sailing Manual, "Sailing Fundamentals" by Gary Jobson
- ASA Log Book (to document your sailing experience/ability
to charter companies) and paid ASA membership
- ASA certificate for completion of Basic Keelboat
Sailing (BKB 101)
We offer two choices of Basic Keelboat Sailing (BKB
101) for day sailing (Weekend/Weekdays) as well as private couple's classes.
