Bareboat Chartering (BBC 104)
For experienced cruising sailors with the ability to skipper
larger boats
Prerequisites: BKB 101 and BCC
103
If
you dream of chartering or sailing with
flotillas, this is the course for you! Under the patient
guidance of your veteran ISS instructor, you will build the
skills necessary to skipper and navigate a 30' to 40'
charter boat. You will practice and become familiar with
every aspect of the boat, from engine to rigging, including
electrical systems, marine head, VHF radio, pumps, and
seacocks. You will review sailing maneuvers, practice
anchoring, piloting, and navigating. You will spend a
considerable amount of time under power and become able
to predict and control the boat's motion near a dock.
The following are some of the many skills you will develop
from this 2 day/1 night course:
- Leaving and approaching a dock using the wind, current,
and lines
- Handle larger sails with techniques that eliminate
anxiety, screaming, and a lot of unnecessary work
- Confidently handle and understand a cruising auxiliary
vessel so your charter or new boat is a safe, enjoyable
and rewarding experience
- How and where to anchor ... is it holding?
- You will learn to plot your position with accuracy
and lay a course line to your destination using advanced
navigation techniques.
This course will give you an understanding few sailors
attain plus teach you the requirements that charter companies
demand!
